Being a room parent is a wonderfully fulfilling way to help out at the Rowayton School while having a direct impact on your child’s classroom.

Among creating the class list, organizing classroom parties, coordinating field trip drivers, and acquiring classroom supplies, the room parents are responsible for recruiting other classroom parents to help out at the following school events and tasks:

  • Mystery Reader

  • Grade Level Enrichment

  • Science Enrichment

  • Garden of Life

  • Learning to Look

  • Library maintenance

  • Yearbook classroom photographer

  • Book Fair

  • Special Persons Day

We find room parents are most successful if they attend the open house armed with a sign up sheet for these activities. If every class is able to provide one volunteer for each of the above school events, the entire year runs smoothly. Some room parents have also enjoyed throwing a meet and greet for the class parents at their home where everyone can get to know one another and learn more about the volunteer opportunities throughout the year, although this is not required.
